Garden studio in reused materials
4.2m wide x 3m deep x 2.5m high
We used recycled materials wherever possible in this project. Re-purposed shuttering plywood – which had been a hoarding in a previous life – comprised the inner and outer skin of the building.
The doors were made from old floor joists, the barge boards and door frames were made from old scaffolding boards, as was the internal shelving. The insulation was pure sheeps’ wool. The window at the rear was unwanted and heading for landfill.
There are two large skylights (each 230cm x 72cm) and a bijou wood-burning stove. The inside plywood wall cladding has been limed. The roofing membrane is EPDM rubber.
Our garden building evolved out of a conversation about creating a multi purpose space, out of recycled materials on an unused area of the garden.
The team were a joy to work with. They were professional and approachable enabling creative ideas to jointly evolve.
We now have an amazingly light, warm and versatile space that is used by all the family – for socialising, exercise, work and even barbering!
A big thank you to David and the guys.
